FAO : Year 4 - RSE learning23 June 2025 (by Amy Salsbury (admin)) |
Dear Parents and Carers,
I am writing to inform you about an upcoming unit in our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic education) curriculum, titled “Safety and the Changing Body.”
This unit includes important lessons that help your child understand how to keep themselves safe, both online and offline, and introduces key concepts related to growing up. Some aspects of this unit are part of our statutory Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), which we teach in an age-appropriate and sensitive manner.
Over the coming weeks, we will be covering the following topics:
- Privacy and secrecy – Understanding the difference between appropriate surprises and unsafe secrets.
- Evaluating online information – Recognising that not everything online is reliable or true.
- Growing up and physical changes – Learning about the physical and emotional changes associated with puberty.
- Introducing puberty – Understanding the names and functions of body parts, and what changes to expect as we grow.
- Tobacco – Learning about the risks of smoking and the benefits of being a non-smoker.
We understand that some topics, particularly those around puberty and body changes, may prompt questions at home. We aim to create a respectful and safe classroom environment for these discussions and encourage open dialogue.
If you would like further information, please see the website about our school policies.
If you have any questions about the content of these lessons, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Mr Brooke
