Welcome to Year 4
Year 4 visited Celtic Harmony for our school trip and travelled to the Iron Age! We got to experience what it was like to live in 1200BC. We took part in many exciting activities that taught us new skills such as weaving, bread making and trading.
During Diwali, we got to take part in a dance workshop. We learnt about the story of Prince Rama and his wife Sita. We listened to Bollywood songs and as a class we created parts of the story through dance. We thoroughly enjoyed taking part in another religions traditional festivities.
We celebrated Halloween at Saffron Green! In Year 4 we decorated pumpkins for our classroom. Many of us went to the school disco and dressed up in our scariest and spookiest costumes. We had such a great time dancing to songs like ghostbuster and eating hot dogs!
We’ve spent this half term learning our multiplications and divisions by using various strategies. We created arrays out of counters for us to visualise the multiplication. We used fact families, digital root and bus stop method to work on our divisions. We played card games to practice multiplication, had competitions called ‘head to head’ and used place value grids to help calculate sums. We learnt how to do this with whole numbers, decimals and fractions.
In November, Year 4 took part in a speed stacking competition against 7 other schools. They showed real team work and we were definitely cheering the loudest providing everyone with support! Unfortunately, we didn’t make it to the final but it was a great experience that we all had fun taking part in.
Year 4 were given the amazing opportunity to go to the Royal Opera House. We had learnt about amplitude and pitch in music so it was great to be able to listen to a live orchestra. The outfits were spectacular and we all admired the intricate detail of the theatre. We watched the ballet called Coppelia, where a girl named Coppelia sits on her balcony all day reading and never speaking to anyone. Swanhilda soon learns that Coppelia is actually a doll that belongs to Doctor Coppelius, the mad scientist. She decides to impersonate the doll, in order to win the love of Franz. It was a fabulous show that we all enjoyed. A big thank you to the parents that helped us for the day too!
